Son dos los rasgos principales de Château Calon Ségur: la pureza de la variedad cabernet sauvignon, protagonista de algo más de tres cuartas partes de su coupage, y la finura. En un terruño como el de Saint-Estèphe, conocido por la potencia de sus vinos, uno no puede sino sacarse el sombrero ante la elegancia conseguida en esta casa, sobre todo desde que cambió la dirección enológica en el año 2006, ahora en manos de Vincent Millet.
Calon Ségur es un vino maduro, cremoso, con un tacto de terciopelo muy seductor y un toque dulzón que lo convierten en una de las mejores opciones para introducirse en el descubrimiento de esta zona de Burdeos. Para conseguir esta suavidad, se aplica una extracción muy suave, no se realiza bazuqueo durante la fermentación y el vino es criado en barricas nuevas durante 18-20 meses logrando una impecable integración entre fruta y madera. Preservar los aromas naturales de la fruta fresca y la dulzura de los taninos, en definitiva, respetar la materia prima, es uno de sus principales objetivos.

Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2017 Calon-Ségur features warm plums, cassis, baked cherries and mulberries, earth, meats and cedar on the nose with notes of lavender and olives. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant and intense with firm, fine-grained tannins and great length, finishing minerally. This wine was aged in 100% new French oak barrels for 20 months. The blend is 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot.
Darkest cherry colour. Lifted and fragrant, very Cabernet Franc on the nose. Both black and dark-red fruit, almost raspberry, but pencil shavings too. Super-fine tannins, so silky already, so fluent, though there is clearly a density and concentration here in the texture as it builds in the mouth. Lovely dry texture on the finish, dark-fruited but full of life – I would not have thought this had so much new oak as it is swallowed by the fruit.
