Viña Zorzal Malayeto2020
£18.95/ 0.75 L btl
In 2013, with Malayeto, Viña Zorzal began to make a series of wines with their focus firmly on the terrain. Emanating from a plot located in Fitero, the only municipality in Navarra to fall within the Iberian mountain System, lying between the Sierra de Cameros and the Ebro Basin, they managed to produce a truly special wine. Promoting biodiversity, as well as native flora, and by means of sustainable wine-making techniques, they were able to transform the produce of a singular, unique vineyard into a wine brimming with life, full of fruit, a very well-produced and nicely extracted Garnacha, juicy, profound and elegant.
What does this wine taste like?
Open and expressive on the nose, Malayeto is a natural wine without fancy make-up; what we would call a true wine. Aromas of fresh fruit and almost jam-like ripe fruits, with the usual sweet background found in Grenache wines. It has hints of minerals as well as wild Mediterranean forest, balsamic, and fine wood notes. Flowery sensations of juicy and crunchy fruit, such as ripe pears, make this an extremely complete wine.
Fruity, serious, complex, and balanced on the nose; intense and quite concentrated on the palate but with an exuberance and acidity which helps the wine glide around the mouth. A fleshy and extremely well-produced wine.
Drinking and storing
Due to its purity, pair it with good quality, fairly plain dishes. Any grilled red meat, accompanied by fresh vegetables will work to perfection.

The Viña Zorzal Malayeto is made from the fruit of old Grenache bush vines in Finca Malayeto, a 2.4 hectare plot in Fitero in the Ribera Baja region, which forms part of the Navarre appellation. Influenced by a continental climate rather than a Mediterranean one, this vineyard is one of the oldest in Navarre where vines manage to survive thanks to their roots digging deep through the stony soils to look for water. Rainfall permeates the soil and the stones help retain the heat on sunny days. The soil is also made up of chalk, clay, limestone and even volcanic basalt.

Within a very short time, Viña Zorzal has become an absolute benchmark among Navarra wines. The bird on its labels is a symbol which we unquestionably associate with excellent quality wines originating from the Navarra DO, and also from the Rioja DOQ, under the name of el El Inquilino.
