Joseph Drouhin

The Joseph Drouhin winery is committed body and soul to the diversity of Burgundy, producing wines from almost 90 different appellations. The firm owns over 80 hectares of vines, most of them being Premier and Grand Crus, where they cultivate the two star grapes from Burgundy: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Joseph Drouhin creates wines from a fascinating variety of terroirs, expressing the authenticity and subtle differences in Burgundy wines. 

A true family business, the Maison Joseph Drouhin has been run by the Drouhin family for the last 140 years. It is currently in the hands of the fourth generation who share the same passion and desire to listen to nature which inspired the winery's founder. The Maison has adopted biological and biodynamic agricultural methods, using only natural products in the vineyards and showing the utmost respect for the land, vines and environment. One of the winery’s slogans sums it up perfectly – "we offer natural solutions to nature problems." Vineyards are ploughed by horses, wild plants are allowed to grow between the vines to encourage the presence of natural predators, and natural compost and herbal infusions are used to help the vines grow and stay healthy. Drouhin reproduce the plants themselves to conserve their genetic heritage and control the quality of the process. Vines are deliberately planted close to each other to ensure low yields and receive the delicate message and values the soil offers the fruit.
