Aalto is one of the Ribera del Duero’s great benchmarks, a wine of excellent balance and complexity, full of power and personality, mature and elegant, which owes its virtues to some magnificent grapes of the Tinta Fina (Tempranillo) variety, to the diversity of soils and to the vast experience of Mariano García, the wine maker who for thirty years was in charge of the production of Vega Sicilia wines. Right from the very start, it has been one of the finest examples of a modern Ribera, which has now become a classic, a fundamental Ribera and a wine for those special occasions.

Essential Ribera Del Duero
Aalto is big and brawly wine that combines ripe fruit with creamy toasted oak flavour flawlessly. This is my number one go-to wine in Ribera Del Duero and one of my favourites overall. Worth getting couple bottles from every vintage.
Top, Top, Top Notch.
If this is Mariano Garciá's base wine at his state of the art new headquarters of production, I can only imagine how epic his special cuvées must be (probably require the addition of a sixth star). Bought on offer for around €30.00 per bottle, making it ridiculous value for money, when very good 5th growths and second or third wines of good Bordelais Medocs are shifting for €55.00 upwards. This wine is an absolute belter - big, tannic, but soft and yielding in this excellent vintage for Ribero. A juicy roast pork on the spit or medium rare Côte de Bœuf is essential accompaniment. A Classic.
Good, going to be very good
Looked fantastic in the glass and easy on the nose, this Spanish masterpiece is full of life carrying strong fruits and tons of potential but, for now with stronger tannins than I prefer - over the next 12-24 months I expect these to reduce and an even smoother character to appear.
My go-to Ribera del Duero wine
Aalto was the wine that got me initially fell in love with Ribera del Duero wines. To this day I haven't yet found as good value in the region as Aalto offers. Powerful, spicy and warm wine. 2016 stands proudly in the line of fine Aalto vintages.
This is now my 3rd order of this wine.....so I'm obviously a bit of a fan. If you looking at the ratings you will see its very popular, and rightly so! Its not cheap so maybe a bit of a special occasion wine...but it is delicious.
