El Corner del Puntido

The 2022 Corner del Puntido is a new red that was still unbottled when I tasted it. It was selected from a corner of the El Puntido Vineyard that has very shallow soils, though not as sandy as La Nieta, with a more north-facing exposure. The grapes were hand destemmed and fermented in a concrete oak vat and matured in new French oak barrels. It is purple in color and has a creamy nose. It was taken out of the barrels one or two days before I tasted it, so it's still very young. It's more streamlined than El Puntido and has some floral notes. It's somewhere between El Puntido and La Nieta and showed quite well despite the challenging year with the powerful tannins from 2022. This will be sold exclusively through their distributor in Barcelona, Vila Viniteca. There should be around 5,000 bottles.
