The wine

Protos 27 is a homage to the eleven visionaries who founded Protos in 1927. A wine created from ten years of research and work into improving vine-growing techniques, vineyards, and barrels and selecting local yeast, as chosen by the winery's own technical team. An ambitious R&D project which has resulted in a classic Ribera del Duero blend with aromatic complexity and a lingering and balanced feeling on the palate.

A single-variety Tempranillo from vines over 50 years old, it undergoes a malolactic fermentation in new French oak barrels before ageing in the same casks for 16 months. Finally, the wine is left to stand in the bottle for a further 12 months before its release onto the market. The final result is an example of the very best that Ribera del Duero can offer, a wine whose freshness, intensity, complexity and elegance seduces wine-lovers.

Bodegas Protos

Bodegas Protos

Protos was founded in 1927 and was the first winery in the wine region known as Ribera del Duero, being its first name precisely that one: Ribera del Duero. In the early 1980s, coinciding with the creation of the Regulatory Council of the area, the winery changed its original name to Bodegas Protos (from the Greek protos, which means first). It ceded its first name to the Regulatory Council, authorising it to use that name to identify the Ribera del Duero denomination of origin....
