The wine

Gotes was the last to be incorporated into the Portal del Priorat's wine family, the Alfredo Arribas project in this denomination, and was envisioned to highlight the freshness of Priorat wines; gotes (drops) of freshness, like dewdrops. The freshness of wines from the Priorat may surprise many because the region is located in a dry climate, with very low rainfall, but the singularity of the soils in this area, its steeply mountainous geography and the stiff breeze which blows up from the sea towards the foothills of the Sierra de Montsant along the River Siurana makes it possible. In addition, there's the north and north-westerly orientation of some vineyards, such as the ones that give rise to this wine, the presence of vegetation and woodlands surrounding the estates, and an early grape harvest, at a medium point of ripeness, which is also the case for this refined Gotes del Priorat.

Don't expect to find in Gotes the more usual Priorat typicity, with profound maturity and intense minerality. Gotes reflects another type of Priorat wine, refined, in the French style (we mean 'French' as in Burgundy), with a fresh and floral profile. The typicity of Gotes is rooted in the countryside, in its notes of aromatic plants, and in that delightful warmth, because although fresh it is Mediterranean. Another special feature of Gotes is the polish and attention to detail it emits; it's an elegant wine; it has clearly been crafted by experts.

If Gotes is refined on the nose, it's positively explosive on the palate! It grows and grows, with lots of volume and a very seductive sweetness and velvety texture. Gotes is fruit, but a very varied fruit cocktail: red fruits, black fruits, both fresh and jammy, the odd juicy stone fruit like mango (the Garnacha always leaves its mark) and fresh grapes that provide a citrusy touch. Drops of freshness... morning freshness with hints of nightfall.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The juicy and fruit-driven red 2020 Gotes del Priorat was produced with Garnacha, Cariñena and Syrah and is the palest of all the reds I tasted. It's medium-bodied and has fine, almost imperceptible tannins. It is easy to drink and pleasant, with good freshness and balance. 24,000 bottles. It was bottled in February 2022.

Portal del Priorat

Portal del Priorat

Portal del Priorat is the Priorat winery belonging to Alfredo Arribas, the architect, who started his venture into the wine world in 2001. Today he is also to be found in the nearby denomination of Montsant, with his Trossos collection of excellent wines. With Portal del Priorat, Alfredo offers us some elegant single-vineyard wines, from the Clos del Portal estate, covering an area of just over 40 ha, of which 15 ha comprise vineyards that are very low-yielding (approximately...
