Review

Artigas is the most affordable of the great Mas Alta wines. It's made mostly from Garnacha grapes (60%), although there's also some Cariñena (25%) and a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon, aged for 16 months in French oak barrels, a third of which are new, another third used for one wine and a third for two wines. Its Priorat personality is evident, yet certain Cabernet notes might cause slight hesitation at first. Let it breathe a bit and its intensity will amaze you, as well as the contrast between its powerfulness, maturity and density, and the refreshing, citrus quality of its fruitiness (black cherry, plum). Artigas is sweet and balsamic, while at the same time earthy and mineral too. Undoubtedly, an excellent wine, with great expressiveness, that extends a warm and sincere invitation to experience the Priorat's typicity.

Tipico

Wine from Bodegas Mas Alta

Bodegas Mas Alta

Mas Alta was founded in the village of La Vilella Alta at the end of the nineties (1999) by two Belgian families (Lambrecht and Vanhoutte), with the technical assistance of Michel Tardieu, the eminent French oenologist. They were neither the first nor will they be the last to come over from other countries and establish themselves in this highly-esteemed Catalan region, enthralled by the exceptional nature of this terroir. Although typically Priorat, Mas Alta wines have always...
