Details for Vetus 2016
Bottle size and vintage
The Antón family, in charge of the Artevinowine-producing group (Finca Villacreces, Izadi, Orben), moved into the Toro region in 2003, having seen the potential of this appellation. They bought different plots and classified them according to age and vinification techniques. With the aim in mind of maintaining the essence of Toro while opening the doors to new changes, they went on to develop the Vetus wine.
The good results they got from the first Vetus encouraged them to continue, building a modern winery in a 20-hectare vineyard in the heart of the appellation, just a few kilometres outside of the town of Toro. The Vetus winery opened in 2008.
Vetus is an estate wine, a faithful reflection of the vines which provide its fruit. It is made from Tinta de Toro grapes chosen from the best locations of the vineyard around the winery. It then ages for twelve months in new French oak barrels from different barrel manufacturers. A modern style wine, but without excesses. The Antón family aim to transmit the typicity of Toro and its indigenous grape variety through Vetus. The result; a rich, fruity wine, with clear aromas of ripe black fruit. It has a superb, invigorating nose, both intense and warm, which is typical of Toro, and delights the drinker with hints of fruit compote and liquorice in the mouth, alongside rounded tannins, and a long alluring finish.

Good depth, colour and legs. Some tannin - which I like. I have been drinking Matsui Toros, this stand up well. I will buy again.by: Guy (31 Jan) - Vintage 2016
Good balanced Toro
Good balanced and good aftertastes, but we still prefer the Almirez as being more full bodied and more typical Toro.by: JB (16 Sep) - Vintage 2016
For the price this is one of the smoothest and full bodied reds you'll findby: André G (23/04/2019) - Vintage 2015

Wonderful Tinta de Toro
Lately I have been trying a range of wines from Toro, and this one is hands-down my favorite so far. Rich, velvety purple, bold and full-bodied, a true pleasure.
With the inclusion of Vetus, the Antón family have added a third exemplary region to join their wineries in Rioja Alavesa Bodegas Izadi and Bodegas Orben) and the Ribera del Duero Finca Villacreces). Ten hectares of old vineyards and limited production in an area which, according to Robert Parker, and making the winery feel immensely proud, will be “the promised land of Spanish wines”....
