San Roman figures among the great wines of Toro. What else could we expect from a great winemaker like Mariano García! It proves and confirms that today's Toro wines bear no similarity to those strong, rough, harsh wines of times past. This is elegant, fragrant and sophisticated. A classy wine, one of those we so often describe as feminine.
What does this wine taste like?
Its cherry colour with a purple rim, fairly dense, will tinge the glass and begin to captivate us with its aromas, slowly unfurling, just like a peacock unfurling its majestic plumage under the gaze of admiring onlookers. Aromas of raspberries, wild strawberries, always lush ripe fruit, violet petals, hints of liquorice, a very pleasant menthol touch and wafts of dry earth... It is a wine with a marked mineral character.
On the palate it is extremely fruit-forward, with dark fruit, and it has impressive structure, with sweet and very ripe tannins. Its passage through the mouth is silky, with a more notable presence of ageing notes on the palate than the nose, always very well-integrated. It is long, exceedingly long, with great balance. Once again: this is a classy wine, powerful and with a long life ahead of it.
Drinking and storing
Decant it at least half an hour beforehand, then relax and enjoy it. If possible, put a couple of bottles by to have in a few years’ time, and your patience will be amply rewarded.

We never drunk San Román before and although the 2014 is still very young it had good body, noise and complexity but tendency to close. So the next bottle will be opened in 6 months because it was very promising but a bit too young to drink now.
Great wine for a reasonable price!
This wine is so great, it is full off flavour, and not too oakey and would accompany red meat, game or robust cheese. Absolutely love it.
San Roman always delivers
Great big Toro wine, San Roman always delivers! Vanilla, fruit, chewy, would benefit from a few more years in the bottle.
Really Nice Wine , Very Elegant , balanced with refinded tannins . I will buy few more bottles in the near future .
Very nice wine from Toro!
Even if it’s young it’s very good and for the price it’s one of my favourites.
San Román Bodegas y Viñedos
Bodegas San Román (Maurodos) is, to put it another way, Bodegas Mauro in the Toro denomination. Mariano García (Bodegas Mauro, Aalto) started this project in 1995, with vineyards of mainly Tinta de Toro grapes (90%) but also Garnacha, in Pedrosa del Rey, Villaester and San Román de Hornija. NOTE: The vineyards with which Bodegas y Viñedos Maurodos work, both their own and those of collaborating winegrowers, have organic certification . However, even...
