Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Suckling

The 2019 Tebaida Nemesio was produced with ripe Mencía from a vineyard called San Salvador, in the village of Valtuille de Arriba and for now a Vino de Paraje Barreiriñas, where the soils are rich in clay and give a more fruit-driven and floral wine with softer tannins and moderate acidity. It fermented in 225-liter oak barrels and matured in new and second use 225-liter barriques for 16 months. Even if the oak is noticeable, it's not intrusive as in the Tebaida 5; there is more balance and elegance here, with 14.5% alcohol. It's floral wine in the style of the 1990s—showy, creamy and oaky. 900 bottles produced. It was bottled in September 2021.

Very slick and fresh, sexy wine with peppery dark berries. Long, regal tannins and a shimmery, glossy finish. Drink or hold.

Bodega Casar de Burbia

Casar de Burbia is a purely family-owned winery that was founded by Nemesio Fernández Bruña, the first generation of a saga of vine growers and vine-growers, as they themselves like to call themselves, which has survived to this day. That boy who, back in the 1940s, was entrusted with cleaning the clay vats as he was the only one who fit through the narrow mouths, decided in 1989 to make his dream come true and began to acquire old vineyards in El Bierzo. Obsessed with altitude...
