The wine

D.V. Catena Tinto Histórico pays homage to Don Domingo Vicente Catena (Nicolás Catena Zapata's father) and his legendary talent for blending wines. With his commitment to the elegance and complexity of Argentinian Malbec, he was behind Catena Zapata's evolution from a family winery to becoming one of the most successful ones in Mendoza

Currently run by Laura Catena and Alejandro Vigil, the winery has continued to create excellent blends and D.V. Catena Tinto Histórico is a perfect example. Made with grapes from four different mountain vineyards, it combines the delicious fruitiness of Malbec, the gently rustic strength of Bonarda, and the colour and acidity of Petit Verdot. An authentic treasure among Argentinian blended wines.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The subtle, balanced and elegant 2019 DV Catena Tinto Histórico was produced with a blend of 75% Malbec, 19% Bonarda and 6% Petit Verdot, and each grape seems to contribute nicely to the blend, making it balanced, harmonious and complex and especially very likeable and drinkable. It has moderate alcohol, round tannins and a lively and fresh mouthfeel. 117,600 bottles produced. It was bottled in June 2020.

Bodega Catena Zapata

In keeping with family tradition, Nicolás Catena Zapata is now the third generation to run the winery and can count on daughter Laura to follow in his footsteps. They have been able to make the most of terroir best described as poor, yet exceptional, holding to the firm belief that these particular lands possess hidden qualities, excellent for grape-growing. The wine-making philosophy of Nicolás Catena lies in the art of blending fruit from different vineyards. Despite the...
