The wine

Blanc D'Orto shows us the Garnacha Blanca's true potential, a grape variety almost abandoned in this particular area and which so many vinegrowers are now wisely recouping and replanting. Here, it is sourced from five estate vineyards (Mas Roig and Torre Fontaubella) with a total surface area of 1.8 ha. The physical geography of the land is mountainous, with some areas of very isolated slopes and others extremely secluded with plenty of shade and humidity. The ground's soil composition is notably calcareous, with a clay and gravel texture, home to the vines which grow there peacefully in bush formation.

Interesting points to note are that, after the customary pressing, the skins are allowed to soak with the must and during the ageing process the wine rests on its lees (thick deposit of dead yeast cells); this results in a powerful white wine, robust and oily, with a structured body exuding a buttery mouthfeel that caresses the palate: ideal for those who like a heavy fruit presence. Large measures of peach, blanquilla pear and pine resin are 'prime factors' in Blanc D'Orto, along with a subtle finishing touch of Viognier distilled grappa.

Blanc D'Orto, in pure Rhône style!

Orto Vins

Orto Vins is one of the most interesting projects to have been set up in the Priorat region in recent times. Opting for the Montsant D.O, four vinegrowers have joined ranks: Jordi Beltran, Josep M. Beltran, Josep M. Jové and Joan Asens. They have followed in the vine-growing footsteps of their fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers, with a long tradition of working in cooperatives, and in 2008 they decided to start up their own winery and make top quality wines.
