The wine

The small black-headed Sardinian warbler, known as the Tallarol locally, lives among the pines and Holm oaks of Mediterranean woodlands. Its daring character inspired the Alta Alella winery to create and name this white wine which embodies the wonders of the Pansa Blanca (Xarel·lo) variety from Alella.

Tallarol is a fresh and dry, organic natural wine with no added sulphites. It is made purely from Pansa Blanca, grown on sandy loam soils, known locally as sauló at altitudes between 150 and 300 metres overlooking the sea. The vines thrive among the aromas of the Mediterranean breeze while their roots dig deep through granite sands in the search for sustenance and minerals.

Grapes are collected by hand and gently pressed to obtain the flower must which ferments with natural yeast from the fruit itself in amphoras and concrete eggs. This process brings out the character of the terroir, adding volume to the wine and a well-defined structure, while not losing any of its fruit. In the glass, Tallarol offers a wonderful golden-straw colour, with aromas of pears and apples, green almonds, fennel and mandarin orange peel. It is juicy in the mouth, with the mature and salty white fruit so typical of the Mediterranean. An agile and lengthy wine, well-balanced and with a purity capable of transporting us to the Alella hillsides with just one sip.

Alta Alella

The family-run project of Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets and Cristina Guillén. After travelling half way round the world making wine, from Allela to the Penedès, spending time in the Priorat, La Rioja and the Ribera del Duero, and also in France and Italy as technical director for the Martini Group, Josep Maria Pujol-Busquets managed to reconcile work and family with his passion for wine at his new estate of Can Genís (1991), where “transparent” wines are made: wines which reflect...
