The wine

Venta Las Vacas is the fruit of a project set up in 2009 in Ribera del Duero by Juan Carlos Vizcarra (Bodegas Vizcarra) and Uvas Felices (an association of the wine merchants Vila Viniteca with some of the most prestigious Spanish wineries). An intense and delightfully pleasant wine, 100% Tinta del Pais, 100% Ribera del Duero.

What does this wine taste like?

It displays a wonderfully deep, clear and bright ruby-red colour. It is fragrant and concentrated in the nose with aromas of dark fruits such as redcurrants, raspberries and plums alongside the freshness of intense herbal notes of eucalyptus and thyme and a touch of sweet spice (vanilla) and coconut. It is full-bodied and wide in the mouth with a texture of polished and rounded tannins on the tongue providing structure. All in all, an excellent balance of freshness and structure. Delicious hints of cherries, black pepper and liquorice linger on in a splendid finish.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The "crianza"-style 2020 Venta Las Vacas was born in 2009 with the intention of having a different profile from the Vizcarra wines. It was cropped from a cooler year with more rain and fresher wines, still at 14.6% alcohol and with good balance and freshness. It's varietal, ripe without excess and with a lactic touch, medium-bodied and with some dusty tannins to stand up to food. 70,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in April 2022.

Bodegas Vizcarra

Juan Carlos Vizcarra Ramos is the owner and winemaker of this winery, run by a family with strong wine-growing roots, whose vineyards are spread out over various individual plots of land lying within the Burgos municipalities of Mambrilla de Castrejón and Roa de Duero (namely, La Ambuena, El Oro, Las Arras, Tras de San Pedro, Senda del Oro and the oldest ones: Los Barriles and Carrascal). The grapes, of the Tinta del País variety, undoubtedly enjoy excellent growing conditions...
