Bottle size and vintage
Valduero Una Cepa is one of the most emblematic wines produced by the historic Valduero winery located in Gumiel de Mercado. A single-variety Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) created from top-quality grapes grown on low-yield vines over 50 years old. To be precise, their 2600 plants produce 2600 kilograms of fruit. That is, each plant produces one bottle of wine and hence its name; Valduero Una Cepa (one vine).
The bush vines are not irrigated and no chemical fertilizers are used, just sheep manure. Strict pruning is carried out both in winter and in the growing season, and manual harvesting ensures only the best grapes are chosen. This painstaking process means yields are three times as low as with trellis-trained vines cultivated for high production — but the quality of the grapes is sublime. The fruit is usually harvested during the first week of October collected in small 14-kg crates. The grape must is fermented for nine days at controlled temperatures and then macerated with the grape skins for ten more days. The resulting wine is aged in barrels for 18 months and left to stand in the bottle for a further twelve months to achieve a perfect balance between power and elegance.
El Valduero Una Cepa has an intense Picota cherry colour and extraordinarily intense aromas. A complex and balanced wine, it offers a perfect blend of fruit and wood with delightful aromas of toast and vanilla, wild red fruit and leather, spices and lavender. Well-structured in the mouth with a perfect combination of alcohol and acidity, it has a fine elegant finish just as you would expect from a splendid example of great Ribera del Duero red wines.

Un Ribera del Duero de tope, se afirma en nariz y boca como un vino singular, fragrante y sabroso con sus notas de frutas rojas, roble y vanilla. Vale bien su precio.by: Raúl Morales (20/11/2018) - Vintage 2014
Perfecto. Pero un poco caro
Es un gran vino. Perfecto para ocasiones especiales. No te va a defraudar. Lo único es el precio. Deberían de abaratarloby: Richard W (03/01/2017) - Vintage 2011
Excellent treat wine!
Excellent Value special production Ribera del Duero, best Spanish Red producers in my opinion within their price range. Suggest letting it breathe for a few hours before drinking. Classic Ribera tones, but very smooth, with lots of Oakiness and Vanilla notes coming through, and it still retains the classic individual flavours that Valduero provide, consistently across all selections. You'd be pushed to find a better Spanish red within this price range. I have also tried the Crianza, Resrva & Gran Reserva varieties, which are also excellent. Valduero are my wine of choice, and have vintages and prices to suit all occasions, with reliably good wines throughout the entire Valduero range. If you haven't yet tried Valduero, then do so now, you will not be disappointed. Not always in stock, but worth tagging, to get notificatiomns when they are back in stock. Worthy of any dinner table, and will certainly impress guests.
Created by Gregorio García Álvarez in 1984, Valduero is a family-run winery in the small village of Gumiel del Mercado (Burgos) and was one of the first wineries to be founded in the D.O. Ribera del Duero appellation. Gregorio García and his two daughters, Yolanda and Carolina, have developed a robust project based on three key factors: their own low-yield vineyards producing top quality grapes, a unique winery, and paying special attention to customers' preferences and to th...
