Details for Sella & Mosca Vermentino Cala Reale 2019
Review
Cala Reale is the Vermentino DOC most representative of Sella & Mosca, a winery that is a symbol of the revival of Sardinian wine. Its production, although impressive in quantity, does not neglect the search for soils and small new crus where the indigenous varieties of the island are flourishing again. In what is the largest single body vineyard in Europe, Vermentino is certainly the most widespread and preferred white grape.
The terroir is the Alghero Gallura one, which combines a typical Mediterranean climate with ancient clear soils of marine origin. The sun, which brings the grapes to full maturity, and the wind, which gives them a patina of maritime iodine, do the rest. In other words, they make up all the best conditions for wines of great richness balanced by exceptional flavour.
Cala Reale, of a beautiful straw-yellow colour, has an intense bouquet, ranging from the Mediterranean scrub to medicinal herbs, from citrus to tropical fruit, to warm notes of berries and undergrowth. Minerally and chalky already on the nose, on the palate it is peremptory but sharp, with hints of ripe fruit and a clear brackish saltiness. The finish is long and minerally, very fresh and tasty.
