The wine

At Rafael Cambra winery, they are clear about one thing: grapes are like a rough diamond. They can be polished, accompanied, respected... but never modified.

And that shows.

Because Soplo is not a wine made to impress. It is a wine made to remind you why you drink wine: for pleasure, for the table, for life. A wine that transports you to those moments that remain stored in the back of your mind and come back — literally — in a breath, just to remind you that you are alive. Mediterranean Grenache... but with altitude

Soplo is born in Els Alforins (Valencia), one of those areas that are writing the present of Mediterranean wine with a very simple idea: less make-up and more landscape.

Here, Garnacha grows at an altitude of around 700 metres, and that sets the style: more freshness, more tension, more lightness. Mediterranean, yes, but without heaviness. With that energy that makes the bottle last less than you expected.

One of those bottles that becomes your "house wine"... and not by chance.

What does this wine taste like?

Cherry and juicy red fruit, with a surprising touch that sometimes even reminds you of passion fruit. On the nose it is fragrant, suggestive, open and expressive, with flowers and forest fruits... and a hint of earthiness, slightly rustic, which gives it character without making it harsh. On the palate it is medium-bodied (almost light), with fine tannins and an addictive balance. It is supported by perfect citrus acidity, which gives it freshness and makes you want another sip. It doesn't shout, but it doesn't stay quiet either. A high-quality Mediterranean Grenache, accessible and easy to interpret, at a more than reasonable price.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker, Parker, Parker, and Jancis Robinson

The young and fruit-driven red 2023 Soplo was produced with 80% Garnacha and the rest Monastrell and Forcallà, fermented with 30% full clusters and matured in 17,000-liter vats and 500-liter barrels for six months. It has an easy profile—medium-bodied, clean and balanced, with fine tannins—and is dominated by red fruit and some spice. Very pleasant. It has 13.5% alcohol, a pH of 3,6 and 5.1 grams of acidity. 45,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2024.

The 2021 Soplo is from a cooler and rainier year with some complications with rain during the harvest that forced them to select, sort and discard, but the wine has moderate alcohol and good freshness. This has changed, as it's now 80% Garnacha with 20% Monastrell and Forcallà. It matured in a large 17,400-liter oak vat and some 500-liter barrels for 14 months. It has a clean and expressive nose, with a floral profile. It's a fresh Mediterranean blend—the Garnacha in the zone keeps the freshness—and he harvests early. This is an approachable and pleasant red with 13.5% alcohol; it's tasty and easy but with some seriousness and fine tannins. With time in the glass, it develops a very attractive spicy note of black pepper and clove. 45,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in August 2023.

The varietal Garnacha 2018 Soplo shows contained ripeness and 13% alcohol, with a mix of flowers and berries, clean, expressive and elegant. The palate is medium-bodied and reveals fine tannins and nice balance. Very pleasant. 22,500 bottles produced. It was bottled in November 2019.

Light-to-mid cherry red. Sweet, pure Garnacha red fruit. Creamy and smooth in texture, gentle and perfectly suited to the name of the wine. Perfect current drinking and you could drink this on its own.
