The wine

When we talk about Rioja, we almost always think of reds. But there is a project that has been proving for years that the region is also capable of producing some of the country’s most interesting white wines.

Nivarius was born with a very clear idea: to make white wines exclusively. An unusual project in Rioja that seeks to bring out the best in varieties such as Tempranillo Blanco, a unique grape, born from a natural mutation within the denomination itself and found only rarely outside it.

Its Nivarius is a magnificent example of that philosophy. Made entirely from Tempranillo Blanco and aged for four months on fine lees, it combines the freshness of an especially balanced vintage with a silky texture and surprising volume.

On the nose, it unfolds aromas of citrus, white stone fruit and an elegant flinty note that adds an appealing mineral character. On the palate, it is expressive, broad and enveloping, with a freshness that invites another sip and a clean, persistent finish.

The vines, located between 550 and 700 meters above sea level in the Iregua valley, together with lees aging, are the key to a white wine that shows Rioja still has a lot to say.

Bodegas Nivarius

Nivarius means "nevero" a natural well where snow is preserved year-round. If it gives its wines its name, it is because its vineyards are 800 meters high and face north. Due to the low temperature, the grapes stand out for their acidity, freshness and fruitiness, key to the quality of the unique white wines. And they know what they are talking about. Nivarius is the first winery of DOC Rioja that fully produces quality white wines. It is what sets them apart. It is what makes...
