The wine

The José Pariente Verdejo is one of the great reference points for the Rueda DO. An evocative and extremely pleasant wine, with a definite unctuous feel, and all that you could ask for from a Verdejo as regards freshness, good acidity, herbaceous and floral aromas, and that typical bitter touch. Produced by a winery which favours hand-crafted viticulture, as a way of life, while also being a strong advocate for research and development; run by a family committed to sustainability, a benchmark in quality, innovation and the cutting-edge.

What does this wine taste like?

A golden colour in the glass with greenish highlights, while on the nose it delights the drinker with all the aromas associated with the Verdejo varietal: peach, fennel, tropical fruits, grass... Fresh, unctuous and mineral in the mouth. In essence, this is a pure reflection of the Verdejo grape and great white wines from Rueda.

Food pairing

Due to its freshness and acidity, it works very well with salads and vegetables, but also with fish and seafood. Pair it up with sushi and notice how the wine cleans the palate between each mouthful.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Jancis Robinson

Dry, neutral, gentle grapefruit and melon flavours. A very steady example of aromatic white, with juiciness but nothing more exciting than that.

Vineyards

It is produced using grapes from both the family vineyards which are over 30 years old and from other old vines cultivated by smaller vine-growers under the firm's supervision. The diversity of soils and terroir means each bottle of José Pariente Verdejo captures the complexity of DO Rueda vines. Poor soils with limestone and pebbles, combined with an Atlantic-influenced continental climate forces the vines to dig deep to find sustenance.

The winery

Bodegas José Pariente

Bodegas José Pariente

Bodegas José Pariente started up in the 1960s, realising the dream of a vine grower, José Pariente. Passionate about his land and its star variety, the Verdejo, he began to produce hand-crafted wines. In 1998, his daughter Victoria, having inherited that same passion and being a qualified oenologist, established the present winery with the intention of making superior white wines and thus paying homage to her father. And so the story continues:...
