The wine

When a winery like Muga launches a new wine it's wise to keep well informed, but if we're also dealing with a top of the range rosé, then our senses must be in for an absolute delight.

Flor de Muga is made solely from Garnacha grapes grown on old vines owned by the winery, and lying at an altitude of around 700 metres on clay soils. The free-run grape juice from the best selected berries ferments at low temperatures in small wooden casks, since the limited area covered by the parcels chosen for the production of this Flor de Muga doesn't allow for large volumes. Afterwards, a period of four months spent on fine lees adds an extra unctuous note overall. In the final blending, the wines of the different parcels are combined so as to raise complexity in the realm of rosés to a new level.

If you figure among the lucky ones who get to uncork one of these wonderful bottles of Flor de Muga, you'll find a wine that's a subtle pink colour with violet glints, a result of a short maceration of the grape skins. The over-riding virtue isn't powerfulness, but elegance. It's complex, fresh and delicate, with its nose revealing strawberries and rose petals and a velvety feel overwhelming its palate. Mineral, balanced, and in a word: unique!

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

I tasted the very recently bottled 2021 Flor de Muga Rosado, from a cooler year that resulted in a wine with 13.8% alcohol and notable freshness and acidity. The wine fermented in oak vats where it matured for four months with the fine lees that were stirred. It was a cool and rainy vintage with some challenges with oidium and mildew but very good for fresh wines. This is very pale and subtle but with good ripeness in the late-ripening zone where these grapes come from. It's fresh and light to medium-bodied, with clean aromas and flavors. It's elegant and subtle, terribly harmonious with complexity and depth. Possibly the finest vintage to date. Delicious! 35,000 bottles produced. It was bottled in May 2022.
