The wine

This is a singular wine created from the best grapes of a single plot, 'Valtarreña', using a blend of 75% Tinta del País (Tempranillo), 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Merlot. The selected grapes are sourced from the winery's own vineyards, aged between 45-55 years old, where very low yields are obtained.

A bright, dark cherry-red in colour, this wine reveals black fruits in an array of complex aromas that include hints of coffee, leather, spices and toasty notes. Displaying a silky, unctuous feel on the palate, it is meaty and powerful with great balance and structure, and an endless finish.

Aged for 30 months in 225-litre Bordeaux-style French (60%) and American (40%) oak barrels, which are on average one and a half years old.

Later his family moved on from the cooperative and began selling grapes to Vega Sicilia, until in 1990 Carmelo decided it was time to start out with their own winery. Their first wine came out in 1991, and since then the company has grown and grown, acquiring...
