The wine

It is born in the classic production area of the Primitivo di Manduria doc, from the oldest vines of the company, almost centuries old! Grapes in an advanced state of ripeness are harvested manually and after vinification they are aged in French and American oak barrels for 12 months.

The San Marzano Primitivo di Manduria Sessantanni is an elegant and harmonious wine characterized by enveloping and intriguing aromas that know how to lead the olfactory taste perceptions by transporting the taster on an intense journey. It represents the qualitative top of the San Marzano Winery is one of the most interesting expressions of this great Mediterranean vine.

It is a red suitable for those who love the breadth, the structure and the rich, almost opulent extraction, which translates into warm, soft and enveloping sensations. At the sight it has a dark ruby red color. On the nose aromas of sweet fruit, plums and ripe blackberries, cherry jam; here come fragrant spicy notes of licorice, sandalwood, cardamom, pepper, tobacco, incense and cocoa. On the palate it appears rich, intense, explosive but exquisitely balanced and elegant. A wine of great body, powerful but caressing.

Exalts meat dishes such as mutton chops, beef stew, roast pork leg. In general it is excellent for important preparations.

San Marzano is a small town in the center of the Primitivo di Manduria doc, a strip of land kissed by the two seas in Salento, the Ionian and the Adriatic. In 1962 the doc was not born yet, the Primitivo di Manduria is far from being that cult wine, as it has become for wine lovers. Yet 19 winemakers come together to follow a dream and establish Cantine San Marzano.

The first bottles finally come out of the cellar, thanks to a modern bottling plant purchased with the commitment of the members. This purchase marks the transition from the commodity to the brand, from the bulk economy to the direct relationship with the end consumer.
