A new single-vineyard wine from Dragonte, the 2022 Paixar Viña de Vaca is from a small plot that was planted 90 to 100 years ago on slate soils at 800 meters above sea level, on a steep slope surrounded by chestnut trees. It has a perfumed and showy nose that combines decayed flowers with sweet spices, with a creamy touch, hints of cocoa powder and toasty undertones. It's medium to full-bodied, with contained ripeness, 13.5% alcohol and some dusty tannins in need of some more time in bottle. It has more complexity and depth, but it needs time. 666 numbered bottles were filled in March 2024. It comes in a rather chunky Burgundy bottle.
