The wine

For over sixty years, the Mourre family has been cultivating their vines in Vacqueyras, in the southern Rhône Valley. There, on soils of limestone, clay and conglomerate, they tend old vines that yield very little: barely between 25 and 30 hectolitres per hectare.

The result is evident in the glass.

Le Colombier Vacqueyras Vieilles Vignes offers an intense expression of Grenache and Mourvèdre, with aromas of ripe red fruits that emerge from the very first moment, accompanied by spicy notes and a depth that speaks more to the age of the vines than to the winemaker’s decisions.

And indeed, an unusual decision has been made here: not to use oak to shape the wine. Ageing takes place in concrete tanks to preserve intact what makes these old vines unique: the fruit, the energy and the identity of the terroir.

The result is a balanced, persistent and deeply Mediterranean Vacqueyras. A wine that pairs naturally with charcoal-grilled lamb chops, roast meats or mature cheeses, but which also invites you to discover an appellation that is often overshadowed by its more famous neighbours in the Rhône.
