The wine

Ponce could be, in the words of Luis Gutiérrez from the Wine Advocate team, the winemaker’s finest wine and possibly the best and most elegant Bobal in the world. An elegant wine, more Burgundy than Rhône. A true marvel.

This red is born in the elevated, breezy landscapes of Manchuela, where Bobal and Moravia Agria have coexisted for generations, complementing each other with an almost intuitive naturalness. There, among poor soils, fresh winds, and organically farmed vines, arises a deep and serious expression of terroir.

The combination of Bobal—the region’s emblematic, juicy and vibrant variety—and Moravia Agria, more delicate and taut in acidity, results in a wine of singular character: fruity yet sober, with a fine rusticity that doesn’t detract from elegance, but rather defines it.

A serious red without rigidity, precise without artifice. A wine that shows that Manchuela’s identity can be at once authentic, refined, and thrilling. The best way to understand it? With a glass in hand, and no hurry.

What does this wine taste like?

In the glass, red fruit intertwines with floral notes and an earthy background reminiscent of the landscape itself: clay, stone, dried herbs. On the palate, it is balanced and long, juicy in its mid‑palate and deep in character, showing the natural harmony between the two varieties. Ageing in large wooden barrels polishes the edges without imposing, allowing the wine to speak in its own voice.

Bodegas y Viñedos Ponce

Bodegas y Viñedos Ponce is a family-run winery which has successfully enabled the small denomination of Manchuela to start becoming known on the international scene. Their original and honest wines have developed into essential brands for finding out what this area produces, and in particular, for discovering the Bobal, a variety which is increasingly more appreciated thanks to the efforts and dedication of experienced winemakers such as Juan Antonio Ponce.
