Review
Gaba do Xil Godello offers an update of the wines of the interior Galicia, of a great land often forgotten. It is a wine of clear Atlantic character with continental influence, mature and fresh, expressive and serious, which shows the virtues of the Godello grape and the uniqueness of the slate soils and red clays at 500 meters altitude.
The grapes with which it is made come from the Valdeorras area, specifically from the towns of Larouco and Santa Cruz. Only the fruit of the own vineyards or of those local suppliers that continue to practice traditional viticulture is used. The strains, mostly driven on trellis, are harvested by hand in boxes and are already selected in the vineyard. In the cellar, native yeasts are allowed to do the work for which they are predestined and once this is finished, the wine is allowed to stand for about four months with its lees before launching it into the market.
Already in the glass we are faced with an aromatic and balsamic wine, with intense aromas of bay leaf and small wild flowers. With a couple of degrees of temperature appear the memories of stone fruit such as peach and an interesting game between sweetness and freshness that leads us to think of honey and lemons. In the mouth it is round and soft, dry and with a pleasant sensation of maturity that surrounds the entire palate. The elegance of granite is felt at every sip, while its good acidity and fine texture lengthen its sense of persistence. Surprising the enormous quality of this Gaba do Xil, especially if you look at its price. We recommend decanting it to enjoy it fully and even keep it a year in the bottle if we look for something more aromatic depth and tactile breadth.

Compañía de Vinos de Telmo Rodríguez

A strong tradition of vine-growing, formal training in Bordeaux and great passion for wine might broadly define this “company” set up by Telmo Rodríguez (with experience, apart from in several Bordeaux châteaux, in the family-owned winery at Remelluri) and Pablo Eguzkiza (a pupil of Jean Claude Berrouet, at such famous wineries as Petrus, and with experience in La Rioja at Barón de Oña and at Remelluri too). Their joint objective is to work with vineyards in a variety of regi...
