The wine

Mas Candí is the result of four young farmers joining forces to revive their grandparents' vineyard. The vines are located in Les Gunyoles d'Avinyonet, in the heart of the Garraf Natural Park, where they practise organic farming without chemical fertilisers or pesticides. Intending to continue the traditions of their ancestors, Mas Candí produces wines based on the terroir concept, seeking to revive native varieties such as Xarel·lo, Sumoll, Mandó, and Malvasia de Sitges, among others. We were pleasantly surprised to discover their Xarel·lo wines; native wines made with the utmost respect for the land and a faithful reproduction of Xarel·lo in its purest form.

Desig 2008 is the result of a Xarel·lo vineyard planted in 1961 with hardly any cultivation, making it a prime example of the terroir. It is aged on its lees, but without contact with wood, which makes it extremely compact.

The first aromatic perceptions are of dampness, dry cardboard, and dust, which then give way to a characteristic Italian grappa aroma (vegetable husk). Desig is sensational because, even though it is a young wine, it develops great meaty, compact, and extractive potential. Could this be the effect of the good lees? A salty, fresh, and light finish perfectly defines the Xarel·lo variety.

Desig... a true Xarel·lo!
