The wine

Azpilicueta Crianza is made with three traditional red varieties from DOC Rioja: tempranillo, graciano and mazuelo.

The Azpilicueta Crianza grapes are hand-harvested,  and the must ferments in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, around 25ºC. Maceration lasts approximately 12 days depending on the vintage, just long enough to extract the colour and the most elegant tannins from the skins. The wine then rests for at least 12 months in oak barrels, mainly American with some French, and completes its ageing with a minimum period of 6 months in bottle.

Azpilicueta Crianza shows off, in the glass, a cherry-red colour of good intensity, lively, clean and bright, with golden glints. Its nose is fragrant, with fruit notes predominating over a background of toasted oak and soft aromas of vanilla, coconut and spices, along with subtle hints of tobacco. On the palate, it is rich, sweet and fruity, with a light, smooth entry but with enough body to show balance and persistence. Its acidity keeps it lively and gives it the potential to continue developing in the bottle.
