The wine

Martinet Bru is an absolute reference point in the Priorat, one of those wines that transports us to the countryside where its grapes come from, Mas Torrent, a really beautiful estate with slate-covered lands bordering on the Montsant DO. Year after year it offers wines which are intense yet fresh, wines that combine the loveliness of the Montsant reds with that strong character of the Priorats.

What does this wine taste like?

Its intense Picota cherry colour precedes a nose replete with aromas of undergrowth and liquorice, cherries in liqueur and spices. Strong mineral, blue flower and blackberry notes complete a captivating aromatic display. On the palate it's intense and flavoursome but its sweet tannins and very well-restrained acidity make of it overall a wine that flows harmoniously, conferring freshness and elegance on our senses; understated toasty touches from the oak eventually emerge.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The 2019 Martinet Bru was also bottled and ready for tasting, so I tasted it next to the 2018. The only difference is that this year they used a small amount of very young Garnacha. 2019 was a warmer and drier year than 2018. The fruit ripened earlier and shows explosive. It's a year of generous expression—a positive, happy year. The wine is immediate, approachable and gentle, with very fine tannins. 56,000 bottles, 1,078 magnums and some larger formats produced. It was bottled in November 2020, a few days before I tasted it, yet the wine was very harmonious.

Winemaking

The must ferments in oak and afterwards continues to rest and round off for a long period in barrel too. It's bottled without clarifying or filtering in order to respect fully its essence, and it proves honest and true right from the start.

Mas Martinet Viticultors

Although there was no tradition of winemaking in past generations, Josep Lluís Pérez and his family (Pérez Ovejero) established themselves in the Priorat in 1981 and, along with René Barbier senior, Carles Pastrana (Costers del Siurana), Dafne Glorian (Clos i Terrasses) and (Álvaro Palacios), one of the Priorat’s leading experts, they are held responsible for having brought revolutionary changes to this small denomination in Tarragona, now much admired all over the world.
