Details for Silvio Nardi Brunello di Montalcino 2013
Review
Silvio Nardi's Brunello is a single varietal Sangiovese originating from the various vineyards owned by the winery. Vinified separately, its astute blending gives rise to a red that captures the essence of Montalcino and succeeds in drawing together all the nuances of this splendid land.
Its maturation takes place in second-fill, French (Allier) oak barrels, and subsequent ageing for 12 months is carried out in large Slavonian oak barrels. Meticulous care of the grapes, the correct blending of the wines and their long maturing in barrels of different origins and capacities result in a clean, elegant and complex Brunello.
In appearance, it's a festive ruby-red colour with garnet glints. On the nose, it displays a complex olfactory tableau with highlights of small red and black fruits, notes of vanilla, cinnamon, juniper, bitter cocoa and other rather refreshing hints such as liquorice and aniseed. This enveloping bouquet of ripe fruits and sweet spices finishes with slight metallic notes and touches of tobacco that bring a masculine counterpoint to the ensemble.
On the palate, worthy of special mention is the tension between the smoothness of its well-balanced and flavoursome tannins and the pleasant freshness of its flavour. A vigorous, faultless and well-defined wine, that has a long, mineral and fruity persistence.
A most pleasurable wine and one with long cellaring potential that assures enjoyment from immediate drinking to up to ten years.
