Piero and Benedetta Lanza manage every step of the way from the vineyard to the sale in one of the most significant wineries in Chianti Classico, where environmental sustainability and a modern oenological approach go hand in hand. Approximately 12 hectares between 400 and 500 metres above sea level in Radda in Chianti make up the heritage of this small winery, established in the 1980s and brought to fame by Piero since 1988. A family business, with everything done internally, and which is one with the calcareous, clayey and mineral terroir of Radda, the result of the disintegration of the typical galestro. Woods and olive groves surround the wine estate.
Experimentation never ceases in the cellar, and a new 6500-litre, ovoidal-shaped cement ageing vat has recently arrived. Obviously, the organic management of the vineyard means the use of only indigenous yeasts in vinification, in full respect of the genuineness of the product and a straightforward, clear, territorial style.
Dynamic and juicy, Chianti Classico is the most typical Poggerino product. Here, too, cement, but in fermentation, then large wood and tonneau for a year, followed by a further rest in the bottle for about 8 months. Poggerino is a Chianti Classico that expresses beautiful notes of red fruit and morello cherry on the nose, with a well-defined, straightforward, sometimes peppery mineral texture. Leather, liquorice and a touch of vanilla complete the bouquet. A compulsive drink for all tastes, it does not renounce elegance, backbone and persistence: the tannins are velvety, but the acidity of the Sangiovese is always at the forefront. A typical, artisanal Sangiovese with character.

A very good wine which drinks well to pasta bolognese. The wine is light and easy to drink but mouth-filling with a lot off taste. I ordered another bottle the day after I drank it!
