Petrolo Val d'Arno di Sopra Merlot Galatrona

Scoring 98 out of 100 from James Suckling for this 2013 vintage, this extremely fine single varietal Merlot, originally starting out in 1994 in the Arezzo hills, needs no introduction nowadays. After 18 months of ageing in barrels, 6 of which are spent in contact with its lees, the end result is one of Italy's most harmonious and complex wines. On the nose, spicy and toasty notes, and on the palate, some very elegant tannins and an impressive structure.
