The wine

In the 1970s Adolfo Parentini was among the first to understand the wine potential of Maremma, and in 1977 began to bottle the first results of the Morisfarms adventure, now managed by his cousins Ranieri Moris and Giulio Parentini. The company is definitely big, with 70 hectares of vineyards and about 350,000 bottles produced annually, but quality and accuracy in the management of the vineyard and the cellar are not subject to any discussion.

The production focuses on Morellino di Scansano and Vermentino from the Tuscan coast, but since 1988 Avvoltore has been added, a wine-experiment from the Poggio Avvoltore estate. From 25-year-old vines planted on very skeletal clayey-calcareous soils, Avvoltore owes its name to the bird of prey that usually rests in flight above the vineyards (vulture). Avvoltore is the fruit of the futuristic blend of Sangiovese, a small portion of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon which is typical of the great Maremma: a successful experiment, which is confirmed from vintage to vintage as among the best Supertuscans on the market.

A wine of great breed in terms of power and extract, but also due to its innate elegance, Avvoltore is ruby in colour with bright but concentrated violet reflections. The bouquet is complex, with hints of blackberry and blueberry jam, currant, rose hip, china, incense, rhubarb, cardamom, liquorice, and even wood, toasting and peat. A very ample range, which is at the same time fruity, balsamic and spicy, and which is echoed by an opulent, full-bodied, slender, savoury taste, enveloping due to its softness and the beautiful velvety sensation of the powerful tannins. Persistent and exceptionally long-lived, it is excellent paired with great roasts, stewed meat, aged and flavoursome cheeses.
