The wine

Lacima is made from Mencia grapes grown in three vineyards: one that is over 50 years old, planted at an altitude of 400 metres on schist and slate soils with good drainage; another with vines aged 60-90 years old, planted at between 300 and 450 ms above sea level on slaty soil; and a 50-80 year-old vineyard lying at over 500 ms.

NOTE: Decanting is recommended. Due to bottling without filtration, some solid residue can occur.

Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel. Aged on its lees for 20 months in French oak barrels, and subsequently in bottle for a further 18 months.

I love the subtle and elegant red 2018 Lacima. It is a bright translucent ruby color and has a beautifully perfumed nose with an explosion of red fruit (pomegranate) and flowers with a spicy and herbal touch. It's a blend of 75% Mencía, 20% Brancellao and the rest Mouratón and Sousón. The palate reveals pungent flavors, very good ripeness and balance; it feels very open and inviting. There is a note of blood and fresh meat that complicates the nose. It finishes with long, dry and clean flavors that last for a long time. There's stuffing, freshness and balance to develop nicely in bottle. 5,075 bottles were filled in March 2021.
