The wine

The Gran Enemigo Chacayes Single Vineyard is another of the exceptional Cabernet Francs made by the idealists at Bodega Aleanna, using grapes from the stony alluvial soils in the Chacayes area.

The prestigious magazine Wine Advocate awarded it 96 points on the Parker ratings. It has a deep ruby-red colour, an intense freshness, and its aromas of blackcurrants, blueberries, violets, liquorice and minerals delight the nose. In the mouth, it is a well-defined wine with character and body. Energetic and lively, the Chacayes is definitely another stroke of genius from Adrianna Catena and Alejandro Vigil.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The 2018 Gran Enemigo Chacayes Single Vineyard is a blend of Cabernet Franc with some 15% Malbec mixed in the vineyard. It comes from younger vines than the ones from the classical zones, as the vines were planted in 2004 in The Vines of Mendoza complex at 1,100 meters in altitude. It fermented with indigenous yeasts and with some 50% whole clusters and aged in old oak foudres. Tasted next to the 2019 and 2020, this shows a little more body and tannin, coming through as slightly rustic. 7,200 bottles produced. It was bottled in July 2019.

Bodega Aleanna

Argentina is sharply back in focus. It has tremendous potential and in recent years a new batch of young winemakers has been showing how much more there is to discover. The world of wine is evolving and so too in this South American country, where one of the foremost figures answers to the name of Alejandro Vigil, the 'Elvis Presley of wines', 'wine's answer to Messi' or straight to the point and literally, 'the wine beast', although he prefers to describe himself as a simple...
