The wine

The winery's flagship, the Barbaresco Rabajà originates from one of the most representative crus of the whole denomination and is masterfully interpreted at the hands of Giuseppe Cortese. A great Nebbiolo on which the exceptional nature of the terroir bestows desirable balance, elegant expression and notable longevity.

Proceeding from a south-westerly slope of Rabajà, this Barbaresco ages for between 20 to 22 months in Slavonian oak barrels, with some new and others up to 9 years old in age, and then refines for a further 9 months in bottle before being released onto the market. On the nose there's an abundance of red fruits — dried, in conserve and liqueur — on a faint balsamic background with hints of leather and spices. This same profile is confirmed on the palate, with tannins evident but silky, with total harmony and an ever-lasting persistence.

From the year 2000 until 2012, the Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Rabajà has exceeded Robert Parker's 90 points on 11 occasions and has very often figured among the finalists in the Gambero Rosso tasting awards. An essential wine for anyone who takes pride in knowing not only the Barbaresco variety but also Italian wine.

Giuseppe Cortese

The history of the Giuseppe Cortese winery started in the sixties, coinciding with the market consolidation that Barbaresco was achieving worldwide. The Cortese family was already living by then on top of a particularly well-regarded hill, called Rabajà, known for producing grapes of the highest quality. There, the company's first big challenge was the making of a great Barbaresco which would express the binding link between those grapes and the land that nurtured them. In...
