Giuseppe Cortese

The history of the Giuseppe Cortese winery started in the sixties, coinciding with the market consolidation that Barbaresco was achieving worldwide.

The Cortese family was already living by then on top of a particularly well-regarded hill, called Rabajà, known for producing grapes of the highest quality. There, the company's first big challenge was the making of a great Barbaresco which would express the binding link between those grapes and the land that nurtured them.

In 1971, the first vintage was released of the Giuseppe Cortese Barbaresco Rabajà, obtained using traditional methods. From then onwards, and after the acquisition of new vineyards, a style started to emerge which exalted the land and the preservation of its singular nature. The same style which we find in their bottles of wine nowadays.

In recent years, the total area of vines cultivated by the winery has amounted to 8 hectares, and its product range has also been established: added to the Barbaresco Rabajà, Nebbiolo, Dolcetto d'Alba and Barbera d'Alba, there have been two new Chardonnays, an oak-aged Barbera d'Alba, and the firm's flagship, the superb Barbaresco Rabajà Riserva.

The winery has recently been enlarged and equipped with new areas for the vinification and ageing of its wines in an underground cellar. It also has a pleasantly arranged room where tastings are held. On the same site there is a small and charming Bed & Breakfast in which to spend a few days and enjoy the local area.
