The wine

He needs no introduction, Angelo Gaja. If Barbaresco and Langhe in general are what they are today, much is due to this pioneer of vineyard and wine as a business. His reds are universally considered masterpieces of style and elegance. Sorì Tildin, from the homonymous Nebbiolo vineyard dedicated to Angelo's grandmother, is considered by many to be the most complete and balanced cru of the extraordinary range of the Gaja house.

Cultured, imperious, austere nose, marked by dark notes of bitter chocolate, mulberry jam, earth and spices; then again wonderful balsamic whiffs on a mineral background so rich and punctual as to be surprising. On the palate, vigor and density explode in an energetic and structured but incredibly chiseled mouth. Longevity? From the annals of wine!

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker and Parker

Thanks to its elegant minerality, this wine is often the easiest to recognize among the trio of single-vineyard Barbarescos made by the Gaja family. The 2021 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn offers a pretty combination of red and purple berry fruits followed by dusty tones of crushed graphite and pencil shaving. Those elements reinforce the lovely freshness and vertical brightness of Nebbiolo. The Sorì Tildìn tannins are linear, fine and chalky in texture.

The Gaja 2020 Barbaresco Sorì Tildìn appears more mineral-driven and timid on first nose. It shows bright, underripe fruit, which is great for it future evolution; however, the mouthfeel proves immediately expressive and generous. There is plenty of fruit to push it forward in time with more bottle age. The whole package is very elegant and fine.
