The wine

Arcane XV Le Diable is another great wine from Xavier Vignon’s Arcanes collection. Vignon is one of the top winemakers in the region and all his wines, including Le Diable, enjoy well-deserved praise and top ratings from specialist wine critics.

Xavier Vignon tempts us with this wonderful blend of Mourvèdre grapes from 17 different plots among the best terroirs in Vaucluse, although it is produced under the general appellation label of Vin de France.

What does this wine taste like?

With an intense red colour bordering on black, it is a wine packed full of fruit which immediately delights the nose with aromas of scrubland, blackberries and other dark fruits, and hints of spices. In the mouth, it is a well-structured and balanced wine with elegant tannins and significant salinity. All in all, a splendid Rhône wine ready for drinking now or for laying down for up to ten years.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

There are two slightly eccentric wines from this estate that merit serious attention. Almost 100% Mourvèdre from a parcel close to Vinsobres, the sensational 2015 Vin de France Arcane XV Le Diable had a three-week maceration (Xavier prefers to get as much extraction as possible before alcoholic fermentation), and was aged mostly in small oak tanks and concrete. Blueberries, blackberries, peppery herbs and spice all flow from this layered, full-bodied beauty that has awesome purity, integrated acidity and plenty of structure. Give bottles 2-3 years and drink over the following 10-15 years.

Winemaking

Grapes are collected by hand and then selected according to their mineral salts content. They then undergo a cold maceration process for 3 weeks to enhance their aromatic development and to obtain an optimum extraction of the fruit. An extremely precise vinification combined with time spent ageing in new Austrian oak barrels creates a pleasantly surprising result.
