Matarromera

Located in Valbuena de Duero (Valladolid) in the heart of Ribera del Duero, the Bodega Matarromera winery enjoys excellent views over the River Duero. Ever since it was founded in 1988, Matarromera has become more and more successful on the international stage, winning recognition year after year thanks to the careful work and attention they pay to their wines with a blend of tradition and innovation. The installations, half-buried in the hillsides of the northern bank of the valley, produce top-quality red wines using excellent modern technology, temperature-controlled processes, stainless steel tanks and equipment, and a production capacity of 650,000 litres.

Vines require work throughout the year, such as thinning bunches of grapes to encourage quality growth, but the most important tasks are the pruning and the grape harvest. The Tempranillo variety cultivated in Olivares and Valbuena, in the Golden Mile of Ribera del Duero, needs daily care and attention, and the grapes are collected manually, first with a double selection of the best bunches, and then they are painstakingly selected one by one in the winery.

Another key factor to the splendid quality of Matarromera wines are the oak casks where the wines age. Produced by renowned barrel-makers, and made with wood from the best forests, these casks give the wine a measured amount of oxygen which allows their fruit aromas to evolve and adds texture in the shape of smooth tannins from the wood and a wide variety of toasted nuances from the barrel staves.

The Bodega Matarromera winery is a benchmark for the DO Ribera del Duero appellation. In 1988, in Valbuena de Duero, Carlos Moro laid the first stone for what is now Bodegas Familiares Matarromera, with the aim of producing top-quality wines and a commitment to hard work, vines, and research. The project has become a true wine empire since then, and now includes brands such as: Bodegas Emina, Bodega Valdelosfrailes, Bodega Renacimiento, Bodegas Cyan, Bodega Carlos Moro and the Matarromera winery itself.
