Review
Casaldiserra Vecchie Vigne is the essence of an old 10-hectare vineyard which is located in Montecarotto, in the heart of the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi denomination. The land with its clay soil, the east-westerly sun exposure enjoyed by the vineyards and the balanced production of grapes by the vines enable the harvesting of fine quality fruit which will give rise to a white perfect for ageing. The harvest takes place in the middle of October, manually and at a point of ripeness when some of the grapes can even show signs of the beneficial botrytis infection known as noble rot. Once inside the actual winery, the wine is made solely from the free-run must which ferments in stainless steel tanks and rounds off in contact with its lees for almost a year in concrete containers. The ensuing wine thus retains all its freshness and typicity.
Casaldiserra Vecchie Vigne appears transparent, a golden-yellow colour and with good consistency. On the nose its expressive bouquet opens up with floral and mineral notes featuring white and yellow flowers, aromatic herbs (oregano and sage), sweet fruit (loquat, pineapple, yellow plum), fresh almonds and honey on a salty background. The fine consistency and verticality of these aromas are the prelude to a drink that's perfectly balanced in its concentration and smoothness, and enlivened by a delightful flavour and freshness. Casaldiserra Vecchie Vigne comes over as intense and elegant on the palate, smooth and refreshing in its caress. Having a long finish, it signs off with varietal hints of almond which fade away on a persistent marine note. A warm wine, balanced, full and with plenty of body, that's an ideal accompaniment to white meats and mushrooms.
