Wine Solaria Brunello di Montalcino P. Cencioni 2016
|Alcohol content i||14.5%|
|Bottle size and vintage||0.75 L - 2016|
Solaria's Brunello di Montalcino is the standard-bearer of Patrizia Cencioni's style. Straight, austere, yes, but also enveloping, with a touch (it goes without saying) of femininity. Let's say it straight away: this is a Brunello that matures for 36 months, in part, even in wood that is a little larger than a tonneau (the rest is large casks). But purists should not turn up their noses: the result is a Sangiovese that stands out from many others for its class and authentic elegance.
This is a red wine with character, a fascinatingly clear ruby red with garnet reflections. Patrizia's nectar enters on the nose persuasive, floral and fruity, with hints of morello cherry and violet that soon evolve into leather and liquorice. Ageing tames the tannins, which are silky and enveloping. On the palate, in fact, there is an excellent balance between hardness and softness, intensity and structure. Long, indeed very long and satisfying, with a harmonious finish, it is obviously the ideal companion for roasts, game, red meats and mature cheeses.

Wine from Solaria
In Montalcino, and in the world of Italian wine in general, someone like Patrizia Cencioni, if she didn't exist, would have to be invented. To say that hers is a female company would be reductive: we would only be capturing a small part of the enthusiasm, creativity and hard work that underpin the history of Solaria. The winery was founded in the 1980s, but has an even longer history, given that Patrizia's grandfather, Giuseppe, was one of the founders...
