Bottle size and vintage
Petrea Merlot is made using grapes from the La Feixa Llarga estate, the oldest Merlot vineyard in Cataluña (1982). Perhaps this distinction explains its unusual ageing: undergoing a maturation period that lasts beyond four years, more than a third of it occurs in bottle; the clear aim is to preserve the grape's aromas, without masking them with too much oak.
Intensity and character are the two qualities which best define this single varietal Merlot. Extremely deep in colour, almost opaque, it exudes aromas of very dark fruit, strong liquor, accompanied by comforting hints of boiled vegetables, liquorice and liqueur chocolates. Ink, cigars, spices and refreshing balsamic touches. A robust, tannic and very expressive wine that we can certainly predict has a magnificent future ahead of it.
