The Masseria del Feudo is a family-run winery located in the countryside of Canicattì, halfway between Agrigento and Caltanissetta, in the central Sicilian hinterland. Today Francesco Cucurullo is at the helm, and together with his sister Carolina he manages an enviable vineyard at an altitude between 450 and 550 metres, on clay and limestone soils. There are about 12 hectares of certified organic vineyards, including Inzolia, Grillo, Chardonnay, Nero d'Avola and Shiraz.
The cellar is modern, but is housed in the estate's old farmhouse. The wines are fermented by indigenous yeasts, but are produced with constant attention to technology. There is, in short, a perfect and effective interweaving of tradition and innovation.
.
The Shiraz comes from the Vigna delle Rose vineyard, 480 metres above sea level, on medium-textured clay soils. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand, the musts are fermented using only indigenous yeasts, and the wine rests in cement vats and bottles before leaving the cellar.
Intense ruby red colour with violet hues, the nose is characterised by an intense aroma of ripe red fruit, mentholated notes and sweet spices that give it great complexity. On the palate it is firstly soft, broad and enveloping, rich and balanced. A sapid wine, with personality and a pleasure to drink.
