Review

It takes more than just a few words to describe the history and personality of Marziano Abbona. This charismatic character from Dogliani has created a monument of the wine of Langa. The extension of the vineyard, which covers all the main denominations of this Piedmont world heritage, distils into his wine a constant and impeccable quality on the entire production. With over 50 vintages behind him, Marziano has not forgotten the origins. And in fact the wine of the heart was and remains the Dolcetto. His Dogliani, be it the pleasant San Luigi, or the majestic and award-winning Papà Celso, are proof of this.

Like every great winemaker in the Langhe, however, Marziano Abbona wanted to compete with the legendary Nebbiolo challenge and, needless to say, his Barolos soon became some of the best in the denomination. The style is multi-faceted, because it plays on the perfect balance between the typical verticality of the variety and a touch of velvet imbibed by the smart but never invasive vinifications.

Vintage Barolo is the litmus test of the success of this operation. Thin, fine but at the same time crispy and juicy. Made from grapes from Perno, a small hamlet between Monforte and Serralunga d’Alba, it is a wine with great olfactory finesse, power and excellent alcohol content. Using only native yeasts, it has a vivid ruby colour with splendid garnet touches. On the nose it is floral, fruity and with a beautiful spicy and toasted quality, with clear ethereal hints as it ages. On the palate it is full, elegant, persistent, dynamic.

Elegant and full grown Barolo!

This barolo is elegant and is full grown taste. You can “Ross test” this any given sunday. It works with all kind of food.

A delicate Barolo under 30€.

Works with all kind of Italian food. But let it air at least 30-45min. And if you have peasant let it store for a couple of years. A delicate Barolo under 30€. Very price wordy!

Finesse et caractère

Un jus terrien, équilibré et maîtrisé. Il me fait penser à certains Bourgogne vinifiés à l'ancienne. Très bon maintenant mais promis à une belle garde.
