Review

It was the first Italian rosé wine to be bottled and marketed in Italy in 1943. Ninety percent of Negroamaro, ten percent of Malvasia Nera. In the name the echo of a district in the fief of Salice Salentino, "Cinque Rose" in fact, but also that tradition linked to the fact that for many generations each Leone de Castris had five children. It was at the end of the last war that General Charles Poletti, commissioner for supplies of the allied forces, asked for a large supply of rose wine. Italian yes, but with a strictly American name. Thus was born the Five Roses.

Conquer at first glance with the characteristic crystalline cherry pink and captivate you with the fruity hints of cherry and wild strawberry. In the mouth it is fresh, soft and pleasantly persistent. We recommend pairing it with risotto, boiled and fish and white meat dishes. Excellent with Frisa Salentina.

Five Roses is my wife’s favourite Rose and it’s very difficult to source in the UK. Initial order to delivery took about a week, price was reasonable, comms were very good, packaging was excellent ( no plastic ) and UPS kept me in touch with delivery and signing options. .
