The wine

Estay is pure Prieto Picudo; an expression of the true essence, distinction and personality of this excellent variety. A careful selection of vines, less intervention in the production process, and a calculated time spent ageing in wood give more significance to the land and create a wonderful varietal wine which has evolved to become more fruity over time.

What does this wine taste like?

This extraordinary VT Castile and León wine displaying a Picota cherry colour with ruby-red glints. A round and fresh wine, with a wild acidity and fragrant vegetal and herbal notes (tobacco leaves and liquorice), with aromas of flowers (violets and lilacs), blackcurrants and a hint of ash. Its time in wood is only felt through a subtle spicy taste and its well-balanced and measured tannins. Perhaps its label design gives the appearance of a fresh and simple wine, but it is a fluid drink which also displays deeper features. A long, quite intense, well-balanced and harmonious wine, ideal for a wide variety of pairings, it is an excellent partner for foods such as roasted meat, hard cheese or rich snacks, or even grilled sardines.

Winemaking

Grapes are hand-harvested, bunch by bunch, and fermented with their own natural yeast. Following a malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for four months in American and French oak barrels and finally left to stand in the bottle for a further six months.

Vineyards

The vines grow in chalky-clay pebble-strewn soils at an altitude of 850 metres with a dry continental climate. These conditions, taken together with the fact that only 2,200 vines are planted per hectare, ensure the wine has a fresh and deep profile.
