The wine

This 100% Gamay straight from Touraine, unique in its kind, is produced by an artisan-winemaker, Mikaël Bouges. His domain now has 8.5 hectares (and 3 hectares of alfalfa) where he cultivates different grape varieties including Sauvignon blanc, Chenin, Gamay, Côt (the name given to Malbec in Touraine) as well as Cabernet Franc. This cuvée produced from old vines (80 years old) from Gamay established on a limestone soil is distinguished by its fine texture and its melted tannins. It benefits from a long aging (more than 12 months) in barrels like all of the parcel cuvées of Mikaël. In tasting, it's a nice surprise: this wine is both gourmet and concentrated and recalls both expressions found on great Cabernet Francs like Clos Sénéchal. Gamay reveals here a magic side which remains too little known to amateurs who too often confine it to being a thirsty wine - this grape variety can produce large vintages when it is worked with controlled yields on appropriate terroirs.
