The wine

Cuvée S.M. 1st Edition Côtes du Rhône is a unique non-vintage wine created from a blend of two different harvests. A wonderfully exciting wine by one of the best winemakers in the Rhône ValleyXavier Vignon, a visionary who brings together traditions, terroir and creative freedom. Cuvée S.M. 1st Edition is made from an excellent combination using equal amounts of the 2011 harvest of 60-year-old Syrah vines in the north Rhône Valley and wine from the 2012 harvest of 80-year-old Grenache in the southern part of the valley.

What does this wine taste like?

A magnificent wine with a voluptuous but elegant style, a perfect expression of the terroir and the grape varieties it is made from. A delightful gift for the senses, with aromas of spicey and flowery notes combining magically with hints of Picota cherries, black plums, and black olives, and a splendidly enveloping mouthfeel.

Wine critics reviewsReviews by Parker

The NV Côtes du Rhône S.M. is thrilling stuff. Made from equal parts Grenache and Syrah and aged half in concrete and half in barrel, it offers a full-bodied, voluptuous and decadent style to go with overflowing notes of plum and darker fruits, licorice and violets. Gorgeous on all counts, it’s a shockingly good Côtes du Rhône to drink over the coming 4-6 years, although I wouldn’t be surprised to see it last even longer.
